The Prużański region invites you!
Pruzhany - the district center of the Brest region. Located on the Muchawiec River (West Bug Basin) 89 km northeast of Brest.
The first mention of Prużanie come from the second half of the fifteenth century. At that time they belonged to the prince Iwan Siemionowicz Kobryński, who had his headquarters in neighboring Dobuczyn. The name of Pruzhany supposedly originated from millet grown in large numbers in the surrounding lands. On the other hand, a not-so-well-known legend says that Prusai, who escaped the persecution of the Teutonic Knights, settled near Dobuczyna and named Prussana or Prussiana. Prince Ivan tried to give Prużany city rights, and in 1473, together with his wife Fiedora, the daughter of Ivan Rohatynski, he founded a Christmas church in them. After the expiration of the line of the male Kobrin family on the prince Iwan, his goods became a king. King Zygmunt Stary, however, left Princess Fiedora on them and helped her to marry Yuri Pacevich.
