NAREWKA – cerkiew p.w. Św. Mikołaja
NAREWKA - the Orthodox church of Saint. Nicholas (built after 1864).
The beginnings of the present Orthodox parish in Narewka (formerly called Narewka Mała) date back to 1794, when the first wooden chapel of St. John the Baptist. At that time, the chapel belonged to the parish in Lewkowo Stare. Unfortunately, on December 24, 1898, the chapel was burned and it could not be rebuilt.
In 1864, a decision was made to build a brick church. It is planned that the temple will be located away from the center, in the place where the garden and park part of the Grodzisko farm was located. In June 1865, the cornerstone was laid. To this day, the name of the main foreman, the builder Novikow, has been preserved. The Orthodox church was built not only from parishioners' contributions. The Russian government has allocated as much as 10,000 to the investment rubles. The brick for the construction was provided by the Frydman brickyard (located near Narewka Mała) and the plant in Białowieża. Sacrifice of the church was made in 1967, and three years later it was ordained (some sources say that it was ordained in 1867). The patron of the church was Saint Alexander Nevsky and he was until 1869, when, due to the separation of an independent parish in Narewka, the church was renamed Orthodox church St. Nicholas' father.
In 1915, the old Orthodox cemetery was closed (now there is a wooded area with the remaining several tombstones surrounding the stone fence) to begin burials in the new cemetery.
